Family First Aid Kits
Accidents happen when you least expect them – at home or on the road. You must be prepared at all times. You can buy a First Aid Kit at your nearest drug store or put one together yourself. Whether you keep it in the medicine cabinet or in the kitchen, here’s a list of “must have” items. It’s important that you keep them handy by order of need: Extremely Handy, Very Handy and just Handy.

Extremely Handy
• Aches and pains pills, tabs or gelcaps - acetominophen (like Tylenol)
• Antibiotic cream or ointment (like Polysporin)
• Anti-itch cream (like hydrocortisone)
• Adhesive bandages, assorted sizes (like Band-Aidฎ Brand)
• Burn-relief gels or sprays (like aloe with lidocaine)
• Cough medicine – dextromethorphan and guaifenesin (like Robitussin DM)
• Thermometer (for rectal or ear use)
• Tweezers
• Vaseline (for rectal thermometer)
• Blanket (keep handy)
• Cold pack (a chemical pack that becomes cold when activated and can be useful to reduce swelling)

Very Handy
• Antacid (*like Tums and Mylanta)
• Anti-diarrheal medicine (like Imodium-AD)
• Anti-nausea (like Emetrol)• Antihistamine (like Benadryl)
• Aspirin (to use in the even of a heart attack)
• Couth/Cold/Flu medicine – for day and night use (like Dayquil and Nyquil)
• Decongestant (like pseudoephedrne)
• Disposable gloves
• Elastic bandage (like Ace Brand)
• Hot and cold packs (compresses)
• Insect repellent
• Laxative or stool softener (with docusate sodium)
• Sunscreen
• Thermometer (for rectal or ear use)
• Vaseline (for rectal thermometer)

Handy
• Adhesive tape
• Alcohol pads
• Antiseptic ointment
• Burn relief pads
• Cleansing towelettes
• Finger splints
• First-aid guide *
• Fist-aid tape
• Gauze bandages – in rolls and pads
